Choose Happiness

Choose happiness

The first time I heard this I thought "What the hell does that mean? Choose happiness? Like I have a choice (said sarcastically)

I have thought about this concept for awhile and I get it! I DO have a choice. Until someone first said to me "choose happiness" I didn't realize the choice to be miserable or happy was mine. I thought my happiness was dependent upon external factors such as my bank account, if everyone else was happy, if things were going my way etc.

"What is the meaning of life? To be happy and useful" - Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama

So what does "choose happiness" mean? For me this means when things go wrong I simply choose to be happy. I control my thoughts instead of letting my thoughts control me.

Yes, of course things are going to go wrong in life, but I think we need to find the lesson to be learned then move on. Don't dwell on the past or wish for better relationships or more money, instead be thankful for what you do have right now.

I think it's also important to take a look at who we interact with on a daily basis. I had some people in my life who constantly made negative statements and life was always horrible for them. I really examined how I felt after spending time with them, then I realized I had a choice. I could choose not to interact with them, I could choose to turn their negative statements into something positive or I could choose to do nothing and just continue letting these people drag me down. Now I choose to do one of the first 2 options. The latter is no longer an option for me.

I dare you to try this:
