Everyone hates a liar and everyone claims to always tell the truth, but are we truly honest? Sure we are. We don't go around lying to everyone we meet; we are all honest people, right? What about the lies we tell ourselves? What about the excuses we make to each other? Are we really being honest?
How many times have you said or heard a friend say, "it doesn't matter" or "I don't care"? These statements are actually the furthest thing from the truth. It DOES matter and we DO care. We all make these statements from time to time.
What prevents us from being perfectly honest? Fear....
We afraid to connect with our true feelings. We are afraid of appearing weak to others. I am guilty of this as I am sure you are too. I will say I don't care or it doesn't matter because I am afraid to explore my true feelings about something or admit my true feelings to my friends. Sometimes I say this because the matter is so trivial and I do not want to appear weak. These are also the lies I tell myself when I am afraid to think about something.
I am going to challenge myself and others to stop and think the next time the words "I don't care" come out. Let's all move past the fear and our inner critic and explore why we really DO care. I think we will find resolutions to issues that are truly bothering us and through the resolutions we will find our inner peace.
