Affirmations are a BIG part of my life and whether you admit it or not they are a Big part of your life too. We all have affirmations we repeat to ourselves over and over again. For years my affirmations were all negative until someone came along and taught me the power of positive affirmations.
Before I was taught the value of positive affirmations I had myself convinced that nothing ever went my way, I was going to have a bad day, I wasn't smart enough, no one really liked me, the list goes on and on. If you are anything like me you tell yourself these horrible things daily and guess what? It works! I had low self esteem, low self confidence, everything went wrong, I made poor choices in life, I had myself convinced of all these things.
Then I learned about positive affirmations. What is a positive affirmation?
"Affirmations is using the mind to connect to the subconscious. What you are doing is imprinting a positive statement onto the subconscious that positive statement if used correctly will result in a positive action." http://www.thepositivejournal.com/positive-affirmations/affirmations/
Basically it is the same thing we have been doing our entire life's only instead of telling ourself negative statements we are telling ourselves positive statements.
To be honest I was a little leery of this at first but I came up with a list of positive affirmations anyway. When I first started saying them I felt a little weird. It went against everything I told myself my entire life. I would say them and roll my eyes, or mutter yeah right under my breath. I continued this process not really thinking it was working until one day....
I had a problem and I couldn't come up with a solution then I thought to myself, "ideas come to me effortlessly and easily. I have all the answers within me" (these are 2 of my daily affirmations) and then poof, like magic I found a solution. You see, I told myself this on a daily basis and although I didn't think it was working, these statements slowly creeped into my subconscience mind. This is exactly the way our negative affirmations have worked for us, or against us, our entire life's.
As I got into the habit of saying daily affirmations something new occurred. When something went against an affirmation it stood out like a sore thumb. I knew I immediately I had to change it or eliminate if from my life. A perfect example is my affirmations on relationships. "All my relationships are loving and harmonious" "I am always treated well" Now when someone is making negative statements towards me my mind says "whoa, hold up" then I try to guide the relationship in a different direction but if the person is toxic I just eliminate them all together from my life. Before I would have gotten into a name slinging argument with them and sulked about it but now, it goes against my belief system so the dynamics of the relationship changes or I end it.
I encourage you to do a little research on the Internet and learn more about positive affirmations. I will warn you, there are a few websites out there claming anything is possible with the use of positive affirmations so engage some logical thinking when necessary. I mean, If I said everyday "I am superwoman. I can fly" I don't think I would be leaping tall buildings in a single bound any time in the near future.
As an example, here is a list of my affirmations. You are welcome to use mine but I encourage you to make some of your own.
Each day brings wonderful new surprises.
Everyday in every way I am getting better and better
I am always treated well
I am very thankful for all the love in my life
My potential is unlimited
I deserve the best and I accept the best now
I am divenly guided and protected at all times.
Ideas come to me effortlessly and easily
I have all the answers within me.
All my relationships are loving and harmonious
I choose happiness
I am deeply appreciated
I release all resistance to expressing my creativity fully
Once you make your own list hang it up someplace you will see it everyday. For me, that place happens to be the back of my office door. Actually, I wrote them on my door, well you all know I am a little kooky but that's why you love me :-)
I also have this list typed into my phone. Whenever I am out and about and I start putting myself down I read this list to myself. Poof, just like magic I gain my self confidence back. If you are really struggling and at a real low point then take a dry erase marker and write one of these on your bathroom mirror. Every time you look in the mirror, you see yourself and above you is the positive affirmation statement. Are you getting the connection?
I love this and it's SOOOO true. Years ago I was reading a book by Leo Buscaglia. He said, "Your body believes what your mind hears you think". It sounds simple, but it's really true. If you think badly about yourself, your body feels it. It feeds off of it. If you remember all of the good and loving things that you DO have and are grateful for them, that is what your mind and body focuses on. <3 Love it!
ReplyDeleteYes Melinda, that is so very true! <3
